COMMERICIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
PLATFORM, OVERHEAD WORK, FORKLIFT
The General Services Administration has authorized
the use of this commercial item description.
1. Intended use. This commercial item description covers a work platform that
mounts on forklift trucks for performing overhead maintenance and servicing
functions.

Salient characteristics.
2.1 Design and construction. The overhead work platform shall be constructed
of steel or aluminum alloy and shall consist of a one-piece deck, four side
toeboards, two side rails, a front gate, a rear steel meshed protective panel,
two forklift tine sleeves, and four swivel casters each with a minimum outside
diameter of 4 inches. The deck shall be skid-resistant and shall have 4-inch
high toeboards on all sides. The side rails and front safety gate shall be
constructed of tubular steel railings, 1 to 1-1/4 inches in diameter, and the
rails and gate shall be approximately 42 inches high and braced to the platform.
The side railing area shall have no openings greater than 4 square feet between
cross railings. The rear meshed panel shall be approximately 62 to 66 inches
high to prevent accidental contact with lifting mechanism. The tine sleeves
shall be full length to adapt easily to most standard forklifts. The tine
sleeves shall be approximately 7-1/2 inches wide by 3-3/4 inches high and shall
be spaced approximately 26 inches apart. The approximate dimensions of platform
shall be 52 inches wide by 52 inches deep. The platform shall be equipped with
tine locks to secure platform to iifting mechanism and safety chain for securing
platform to forklift truck.
3. Certification. The contractor shall certify that the product offered meets
the salient characteristics of this description, conforms to the producer's own
drawings, specifications, standards, and quality assurance practices and is the
same as the product sold in the commercial marketplace. The Government reserves
the right to require proof of such conformance prior to first delivery and
thereafter as may be otherwise provided for under provisions of the contract.
4. Packaging. The overhead work platform shall be packaged, packed, and marked
in accordance with the domestic or overseas requirements of ASTM D 3951, as
applicable.
